The Energy Institute has developed a suite of interactive web applications and comprehensive databases to serve as Louisiana's central repository for energy-related data. These digital tools provide accessible, up-to-date information supporting informed decision-making across Louisiana's energy sector.

Louisiana Revised Statute 36:358, as amended by Act 331 of the 2026 Regular Session, directs the Louisiana office of energy to "work in cooperation with the [Energy] Institute to create and carry out a central, comprehensive, and unified energy data and information program which will collect, evaluate, assemble, analyze, and disseminate data and information which is relevant to energy resource reserves, energy production, demand, and technology, and related economic and statistical information, or which is relevant to the adequacy of energy resources to meet demands in the near and longer term future of the state."

Under Louisiana Revised Statute 17:1492, as amended by Act 331 of the 2026 Regular Session, the Louisiana Geological Survey (LGS) is now located within the LSU Energy Institute. The LGS maintains current surface and subsurface geological surveys of the entire state, conducts geological mapping, prepares geological hazards assessments and resource inventories, and manages surface and subsurface geological and geographic information system (GIS) data. This unification brings Louisiana's geological data together with the state's energy data and information program under a single institution, broadening the resources available through the Institute.
