Louisiana Natural Resources Commission held on June 3, 2026 discussed initiatives aimed at advancing data-driven decision-making, improving public resource visualization tools, and strengthening collaboration among state agencies, the LSU Energy Institute, and partner organizations. The Commission also reviewed funding strategies, data governance practices, and public communication efforts related to the management of Louisiana’s natural resources.

Data Conversion to Public Visualization
  • Approve development of a Louisiana Resource Visualization Pilot, with one technical layer and one public-facing layer. Recommended first pilot: Capital Area Groundwater.
  • Statewide Resource Data Backbone – Create an NRC Data Governance Working Group chaired by DCE/OTS with LSU Energy Institute/LGS support.

Federal Funding and State Match Strategy
  • Authorize staff to prepare a Unified Resource Funding Ask covering: LGS digitization, statewide data backbone, SONRIS/LGS/OTS integration, groundwater model, public visualization portal, fellows program, and agency rapid-response capacity.
V.
Communications, Transparency, and Public Trust
  • Direct creation of a recurring NRC Public Briefing Series: one technical memo, one public-facing explainer, one visualization, one dashboard update.
